Resuming their downward spiral, the team heard two shots from the floor below. And as they started down the first landing, the lower door opened. Someone ran down the stairs. The group froze momentarily then crept down the second landing to the door. Kevin touched the door as the lights came on as if by magic.
“We no longer have the element of surprise, so stay alert,” Seige advised.
The lights came on, and the commotion on the floor sud- denly diminished to just sporadic conversation. A man walked into the stairwell and turned suddenly sensing the presence of other humans. He spotted several weapons, dropped his gun, and raised his hands. Jason brought him to his knees and asked him, “How many people are on this floor?”
“Eight.”
“Anybody important?” Seige questioned.
The man looked up at Seige defiantly.
Slap! Jason‘s rifle butt slammed the man’s head knocking
him flat as blood trickled from his ear.
“Now he’s going to ask you one more time,” Jason chided,
pulling the man to his knees.
“Well?” Seige pressed.
“Corin and some FBI guy.”
Snap! Jason’s rifle knocked the man cold.
“If he’s one of our guys, we’ve got to get him out of here.
“Let’s go.”
The door swung open as the team rushed in by two’s.
Splat! Splat! Shots from Kevin’s rifle rang out killing the man
who’s wild shot hit Visara in the side.
“Keep going! Move out!” Seige commanded his men who
instinctively stopped to help her.
He went in to clear an empty room with one of his men. When
he came out, Visara was back on her feet.
Pow! Pow! Shots exploded in a room down the hall.
Seige and Kevin looked at each other and ran toward the
room, each stopping on either side of the room’s door. Two other
