the rage swelled with him. He sat with tears in his eyes for a moment thinking of all the grief caused by his boss’s lack of action. He looked at the body in his arms and thought of his sons, his men, and the families that might have been spared. Easing Matthew to the floor, he jumped to his feet and walked deliberately to the door.
Swinging open the door, he shouted, “Everybody look at this picture! It’s the man were after. I want him alive if possible. Some- one has to answer for all of this! He turned and said, “You okay, Visara?”
“Caught one in the side, but the vest took it.” Damn bullets hurt like hell though.”
A few of the men snickered.
Seige continued, “The reports were correct. Corin’s men have killed an FBI agent in this building, so it’s time to keep the pres- sure on. I’m sure by now they know the elevator is out and the only way to go is the stairs. So let’s move ‘em to the ground.”
The team moved to the next floor, moved back toward the stairwell, and headed down clearing rooms with new ferocity until they reached the room adjacent to the elevator with double doors.
Visara and Mario stood ready outside the door. Mario gave the signal, and they went in. Before he finished rolling to the left, steel coils enveloped him. After noticing her partner’s plight, Visara stopped in the prone position and started shooting to make the snake release. The bullets hitting the snake caused it to tighten its coils, but just as quickly, the snake and her prey relaxed. Mario and the reptile dead.”
Visara turned to shoot the second snake moving in quickly. Click. Click. Her weapon was empty.
Without hesitation, she dropped her magazine and reached
for a second one to load, but it was too late. A split second before the magazine slammed home, Visara became entangled in coils of steel.
Click. Click. The magazine seated, and the bolt slammed forward.
