Marriage was in his cards several times, but dedication to his job and his propensity to take chances marked him for solitude. His job was literally his wife, and very few people in law enforcement hadn’t heard of him.
“Yes, unfortunately, that is accurate,” said Seige.
“Lets have it,” spat Matthew, I’ve known you long enough to know when you have something to say.”
“Intelligence has a leak,” Seige said looking straight into his eyes.
“Now just a minute . . .”
“I don’t mean I think there is one. I mean ass needs to be kicked now!” “I’ve got a man down in an ambush that but for the quick action of my team, we’d all be corpses; a mark that blew up because no one was home; drugs are transacted in the vicin- ity, and we came up empty handed all around. So don’t tell me somebody’s ass isn’t dirty!”
A hush fell across the room for a solid thirty seconds. Sweat fell from Seige’s brow as Matthew paused in his air-conditioned office. Seige looked at the floor now having said his piece and hoping he was thorough.
“You forgot the dead bodies we cleaned up after your group left,” Matthew mentioned sarcastically.
Having spent his emotional blast, Seige’s eyes slowly caught Matthew’s, both men stared for seconds. Simultaneously the two broke into laughter, and as the laughter died down, Matthew spoke.
“I know there was treachery in the last operation. I was on the scene when we cleaned up. I know this isn’t much comfort to you with one of your men down, but I’ll plug the leak somehow. I know I am just the director, but I was the driving force behind Talon. And I take subterfuge personally. I’ll find the son-of-a- bitch. I just can’t promise you a shot at him.”
