VI Corin’s Plan
After Tom left, Corin sat motionless at his desk, flanked by a guard on either side. Both guards stared first at Corin then at each other out of the corners of their eyes. Instantly, the placid silence cracked. “Leave me” whispered Corin.
Both guards snapped their gaze back to the front after the order.
“Boss,” one of the guards ventured.
“Leave me,” he repeated with annoyance.
Both men looked at each other and left the room in unison.
Corin dropped his head into his hands and shifted his thoughts to Tina. Rising from his desk he moved to the window. The sun on his face gave him temporary relief as he recalled her child- hood. Yet, recriminations developed as he considered the things he should and should not have done. The good times they had shared came quickly in flashes, but they were no substitutes for the sadness and mounting anger caused by her absence. Fan- tastic times brought smiles to his face only to be replaced by the anger of reality. He had always demanded facts and no fluff from his men. He had always considered himself hard but fair in dis- pensing rewards and punishments.
However, having just received what he considered the most devastating news of his life, Corin stood in robotic silence won- dering how to act or react.
“I don’t have time to grieve,” he thought. “Now is the time for vengeance! My child, my precious daughter is dust.”
