4 6 JAGGEDEDGE
In his mind, he knew his daughter would eventually be killed. He also knew that someone would pay. Why in the hell did he allow her to be a part of his operation? He had to admit she was a good negotiator; she was also a little crazy too: a regular chip off the block. There were many questions he wanted to ask Tom. It didn’t matter. None of the answers would make a difference.
Corin meticulously ambled back to his seat, his mind spin- ning in his head. He knew that as long as he had been in this business the odds were against him. Like gamblers he had waited too long to quit. It was time to make new plans. This was the time to plan for retirement and settle all debts with his enemies. It was time for a clean sweep.
“Guards!” he shouted.
Both guards blasted in startled.
“Send out a coded message to my keycaps: Meeting tomor-
row at 0800 hours eastern standard time; death is the only excuse.”
Both men blew from the room the instant his lips stopped moving.
0745 the next day, the last key man took his seat in the midst of the revelry. Everyone had received the bad news of Tina’s death and was dressed in black.
“Gentlemen, please silence your watches and turn pagers and telephones to either the vibrate or off mode, a guard in- structed the group.
During a flurry of activity in the conference room, the doors swung open, and Corin walked in. All sprung to their feet like coiled serpents.
“Sit gentlemen,” Corin said in the cool deadly voice his men had come to respect. “As usual, there is a good reason you are all gathered here today.”
Plop! Suddenly, the Michigan boss fell over and hit the table. Just as suddenly the door swung open again and a new boss en- tered accompanied by two men who removed the body. Apprehension filled everyone present except Corin. All eyes were on him again.
