“Is there an extra car?”
“Yes, Sir. We are ready,” said Nathan.
“What do you mean, ready?”
“Actually,” said Nathan, “we are to stay out of sight while
keeping you in sight. And I am driving you.”
“Where is the extra car?”
“I will bring it around.”
“Just make sure you don’t blow this.”
“Don’t worry, we won’t,” Nathan mentioned without blinking.” Tom understood why Nathan was the lead man after looking
into his cold, black, unblinking eyes that gave no clues. He wanted to shiver.
“Just remember, if I can see you, they can too. They are not idiots, and the shit I will be throwing at them will be hard enough to swallow as it is,” Tom said leaving the cabin.
“It seems that from one minute to the next my mind is always on something,” Tom thought driving toward town. “How in the hell did my life get so complicated?” I had been fine with odd jobs in the organization until I was promoted to Tina’s right arm. And that’s when my problems started. First the whole damn crew’s life was in danger from Tina’s bullheadedness. Now my life is in jeopardy, followed by Arnetta’s. And now I’m about to add my friends to the stew. Nothing I can do about Tina’s life, but I can damn well try to save the rest of us.”
Tom pulled into the restaurant’s parking lot and left the car. He knew his guards were in the area, but he could not spot them. Moving toward the restaurant to meet his four friends, he looked around sporadically. When he walked into the restaurant, his friends spotted him at once, and their boisterous reunion be- came the center of attention. After a few minutes Tom began his spiel.
“The reason I wanted to meet with you is that I need your assistance in a high priority project I’m working on.”
Laughter erupted. “What’s so funny.
