  Chief Warrant Officer François D. Mamen, CD
New Regimental Sergeant-Major
Chief Warrant Officer was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1975, the eldest child of a family of four. He was raised in Sainte- Adèle, before moving back as Montreal where he attended public school.
François Mamen enlisted in the Black Watch (RHR) of Canada in September of 1996, completing his basic infantry training in the summer of 1997. He continued training assidu- ously with Regiment, completing the junior leadership course in the summer of 2001 and was appointed Master-Corporal the later that same year. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2006 and then to Warrant Officer in 2009. In the follow- ing decade he served as Platoon WO as well as Company Quarter-Master. Outside the Black Watch he also served as Standards Warrant Officer for 34 Canadian Brigade Group and later as assistant compliance officer for base engineering services in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, all the while maintaining a regular presence at the Regiment. “Frank” Mamen was pro- moted to Master Warrant Officer in 2015 and has since then
continuously served as Company Sergeant-Major, alternately for A or B Company. He was promoted to his actual rank on 8 September 2020.
CWO Mamen currently combines the appointments of Drill Sergeant-Major and B Company Sergeant-Major. When not at the Black Watch, CWO Mamen leads the Content Development Team within the Distance Learning detach- ment (Saint-Jean) of the Canadian Defense Academy. In this role, he co-ordinates the development of online training pro- grammes for both officers and non-commissioned members across the Canadian Armed Forces.
In 2006 CWO Mamen completed a Bachelor of Arts at Montreal’s Concordia University, majoring in history. He is a lover of nature and the outdoors, a voracious reader with an insatiable curiosity. CWO Mamen resides in Longueuil, Quebec with Razieh Kiannezhad, an artist and ceramist.
