Special Projects Committee.

With the new format of the RCGC Club Magazine and the many new members who have
joined in the last two or three years, it provides me with the opportunity to recall some of
the history and background and work of the Special Projects Committee.

As many of you will know RCGC celebrated its Centenary in 2002 in grand style, mainly due

to years of fund raising by the Centenary Committee. The funds provided the Water Feature
                         th
                                                                                    th
                                                                                            th
on the 18 and some of the Swilkin Bridges over the ditches on the 17 and 18 as well as
helping to subsidise a splendid Centenary Celebration Ball. After 2002 some of the residual
monies from the Fund were used for other necessary works including the installation of the
                                                                                  th
                                                                         th
Trophy Cabinet and on the course a Top Dressing on the 10 and 12 fairways.
So in 2009 it was decided to form the Special Projects Committee to continue the
Centenary’s excellent work. Special Projects were then clearly defined as an activity which

had a finite end point and would not normally be covered by either the Green or House
committees’ budget. The brief was to propose a list of projects which must be of benefit to
the membership in general. Our terms of reference are to the Management Committee and
all projects have to be ratified and subsequent funding approved by them. Our funds are
currently generated from three Open Texas Scrambles which provide over 90% of our
               income from outside RCGC.

Since 2009 Special Project funds have provided for the “Sweet Pee” (on course toilet)

project and the National and County Honours Board inside the lounge entrance. More
recently Special Projects completed the extension to the balcony which has been well
               received.

To the future, we have proposed to the Management Committee that we investigate the
problems with the Practice Ground and provide a design to make it fit for purpose. This has
been accepted and our initial brief is to analyse and design a safe practice area for the
benefit of all members. We are nearing completion of this phase which will be presented to

the Committee shortly together with a budget costing. If accepted the next phase will be to
complete the proposal in detail specifying contractors, time scales and final costings.
