Jane Franklin in London, the city is
ageless and unchanging, the inclusion of the cranes and neon advertising of modern cities seems somehow incredibly ‘right’. Sony is a very Victorian idea.
At the same time there exists in this picture a certain ‘slippage’ – ideas are coming from the next series of work. This painting becomes important within the body of work that is the Jane Franklin paintings, it is important because it speaks clearly about endings.
The best kind of work allows itself to include other ideas as the narrative expands to be ,of course, limitless. Some time before this happens the work must end or confusion and unhappiness will usually ensue. Creativity for me exists before too much information makes it impossible to see with clarity. It becomes necessary to ‘lose’ that which has gone before. Forgetting becomes an essential part of the dream.
