The title refers to a
document I discovered at the Scott Polar Research archive at Cambridge.
It was a letter to Jane from an anonymous admirer.
The ‘bloons’ refer to hot air balloons which were then used by the Royal Navy for a number of things one of which was to send communications from remote parts of the globe.
The writer detailed his dream of two bloons ;
one of which turned into a pillar of fire , the other was assured to carry ‘Lord Frankland’ safe home.
