Where to eat.
Brecon is home to the famous and delicious Llanfaes
Dairy Ice Cream p79 much loved by locals, you can relax
in their parlour with a coffee. Admire the lovely views
while you enjoy a meal in the restaurant at the newly
refurbished The Castle of Brecon Hotel p86 or in the
stunning surroundings of Peterstone Court p88 or head
to Trecastle to the Castle Coaching Inn p76 and enjoy
favourite pub classics alongside tasty contemporary
twists. Alternatively, visit the cosy International Welsh
Rarebit Centre p83 in Defynnog and discover the Welsh
delicacy.

If you prefer to admire the views from the water, climb
on board a cruise boat at Brecon canal basin for a gentle
cruise up the 224 yr old Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal,
you might spot a kingfisher along the way. Gentle, traffic
free cycling is available along the tow path.
You could join an expert guide with transport for a day
of humorous tales, outstanding scenery and create a
really memorable experience with Welsh Overland Safari
p70.
To stretch your legs, leave your car in town and take a
T4 bus up to Pen y Fan. The bus is a pound per person
from Brecon or Merthyr Tydfil to the Storey Arms bus stop
until the end of August. There are less crowded routes in
the hills on both sides of the road, or you can follow the
Taff Trail p6 8.2 miles downhill back to Brecon.
