Llandovery and Llandeilo – about 11 miles apart they
mark the Western boundary of the National Park.
Llandeilo
Llandeilo sits on a hilltop above the River Tywi and is
graced with Georgian and Victorian buildings home to
cafés, galleries, shops and boutique hotels. It is a perfect
base for exploring the West of the Brecon Beacons and
into Carmarthenshire.
Llandovery
A peaceful market town with trains to Swansea,
independent shops and a supermarket. 30,000 animals
a year used to be driven through here. A statue that will
probably catch your eye is a 16 feet high, gleaming,
stainless steel representation of Llywelyn ap Gruffydd
Fychan who met a particularly gruesome end in 1401 at the
hands of the English army after leading them a merry
dance to protect his son and Owain Glyndw

The Heart of Wales train line from Shrewsbury to Swansea
was ranked in the top 10 in Europe by Lonely Planet in
March this year.
