P. 6
FROM THE CHAIR
GAN GADEIRYDD
When I wrote last year’s forward, I made no apology for breaking a cardinal rule for the programme
foreword by referring back to the Drovers 22/23 season success - even though it may be old news
by the time the programme is read and I do so again now by referring back to the Drovers’ most
successful season ever in 23/24. It will be a hard act to follow but whatever fortunes come in
24/25 we will always have great memories and will know what a small rural club can achieve on
the back of hard work and great people.
Season 24/25 of course brings great changes as we
move from the Premiership into “Super Rugby
Cymru” and all that will entail. To be selected to be
involved in the new competition and development
structure is a great testament to the hard work and
achievements of so many people over many years
and I would like to put on record the club’s thanks
to everyone who has contributed to the progress
made particularly since joining the old Heineken
leagues.
Looking forward supporters will be disappointed
not to be coming up against some old foes like
Pontypridd who, in my mind, took the wrong
direction when they decided not to apply to join the
SRC but will be excited at the potential for an even
higher standard of rugby and the opportunity for the
club to play a genuine structured role in developing
new players to progress onwards and upwards.
Having said that the Drovers (amongst the other old
Premiership clubs) will feel that we have been
developing players for years but perhaps without
general recognition. When the WRU initially
proposed the SRC all the clubs emphasised that
player development (and supporter engagement)
would only be achieved within an environment of
competitive rugby. It was recognised by the clubs
that this can on occasions be perceived to lead to
Looking forward to an
exciting and successful season...
