Energy & the Environment
According to the National Grid, in the UK it is estimated that the energy industry needs to fill 400,000 roles by 2050 if we are to reach its net zero target.
Currently around 20% of UK energy supplies enter Britain via Pembrokeshire, and South West Wales has strong ambitions to be the UK leader in renewable energy over the next 10 years. Our region has made a strong start to this ambition with projects already underway such as:
• Pembroke Dock Marine off shore wind and tidal
• DARE in Neath Port Talbot
• Dragon Energy Island
• The Hydrogen Centre
• Blue Eden Project To name just a few.

The Energy sector in the region is widely considered as a new sector with new renewable technologies at its core. As such there are a wealth of jobs that are becoming available and skills that the sector desperately needs that will command good wages and rewarding prospects as you could be working towards a sustainable future. Jobs will be required to fill a wealth of positions to aid the transition such as:
• Design, Procurement, Survey, Early Consenting Works
• Environmental Assessment / Scoping
• Surveying, Design, Procurement, Site Preparation
• Cables, Turbines / Panels etc, Structures / Floating Foundations
• Fabrication & Assembly, Cable Installation, Transport, Substations
• Monitoring, Maintenance, Operations
All of which will require exciting roles which you may not have considered such as:
• Drone Pilots
• Biologists & Researchers (both ocean and land based)
• Environmental, Ecological & Water Assessment
• Pollution & Carbon measurement
• Biodiversity & Animal Welfare
• Wind Turbine, Solar, Hydrogen, Wave & Tidal Experts
• Engineers
• Floating Platform Managers
• Maintenance Engineers
• Marine Operatives
The above list is only the beginning, there are new jobs being identified and developed every day all of which will require new skills but more importantly will offer fantastic opportunities for well paid jobs and career development for many years to come!
