4. Beware of those who claim the Holy Spirit is a fire
you with water. But one more powerful than I will come,
the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He
will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.” With
this word that John the Baptist said about the coming Jesus
who ‘will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire’, peo-
ple have connected it with Acts 2:3, which is ‘what seemed to
be tongues of fire that separated’, and they have concluded
that the Holy Spirit has come as a fire. However, ‘with the
Holy Spirit and with fire’ does not mean that the Holy Spirit
is a fire. If the fire comes from the Holy Spirit, it should be
‘fire of the Holy Spirit’ to be correct in grammar and word
order. But it says ‘with the Holy Spirit and with fire’ to men-
tion clearly two different meanings with two nouns. The Holy
Spirit and fire! I mean, if their insistence is correct, it has to
say ‘fire of the Holy Spirit’ in the Bible, but it says ‘with the
Holy Spirit’.
‘Baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire’ is
about salvation and judgement. In other words, it says that
Jesus is the one, who saves human beings from sins and bap-
tizes them with the Holy Spirit, and also He is the one who
baptizes those who do not repent, with fire, namely, it says
Jesus has the authority of salvation and judgement. Just the
next verse 17, supports it, His winnowing fork is in his hand
to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into
his barn, that is, to enter into the kingdom of heaven, but
