ADJUTANT GENERAL’S CORPS
25th ANNIVERSARY
Formation Day
6th April 1992
Formation Day on 6th April 1992 was marked by ceremonies
throughout the Army when those who were to wear new items of
uniform put on their new berets and badges for the first time. At
Worthy Down the event was marked with a Formation Parade under
the command of Lieutenant Colonel Dan Graham, who had, only
a few days previously, commanded the last Royal Army Pay
Corps Freedom of Winchester parade. The salute was taken
by Major General Robin Grist who had been appointed the
first Director General Adjutant General’s Corps. During
the parade, selected members of the Corps were formally
presented with their new berets.
On 1 April 1993 clerks of the Royal Electrical and
Mechanical Engineers joined Staff and Personnel Support
Branch. On 5 April 1993 clerks of the Royal Corps of
Transport, Royal Pioneer Corps and Army Catering Corps joined
the Staff and Personnel Support Branch. On 1 July 1993
regimental clerks of the remaining Arms and Services
were subsumed into Staff and Personnel Support
Branch completing the formation of the Corps.
Since Formation Day, in April 1992,
when we paraded on the main square
in Worthy Down in pouring rain,
we can rightly and proudly take
our place alongside the other
Regiments and Corps of the
Army. The rain on Formation
Day, all those years ago, has
not dampened the enthusiasm
of all those who worked so
hard to make the Corps the
great success it is today; you
can all justifiably be proud of
your achievements. Those who
were in the Corps on day one
will have their own memories of
Formation Day and can say that
“I Was There”.
