Tunnels
Major Justine Williams and Warrant
Officer Class 2 Sarah Cadman, serving
with the Joint Administrative Office
had arranged a number of events. First
was the Tunnel Tour. Inside the Rock of
Gibraltar are about 34 miles of tunnels,
constructed over the course of nearly
200 years. The tunnels housed guns,
hangars, ammunition stores, barracks
and hospitals, within a land area of
only 2.6 square miles. Walking along
the historic tunnels, visitors caught a
glimpse of what life was like in the past,
and wondered how the tunnels could
have been carved out of rock without
the use of machinery.
