                                        Monaleen GAA Healthy club 2020

This time last year our Healthy Club Officers, Nicola & Julie formally applied for inclusion to
Phase 4 of the GAA Healthy Club initiative. The application was successful and the Club is offi-
cially part of the Healthy Club initiative. There is now a committee of 5 in place to support the
Healthy Club officers and they attended official training online over the summer months.

January commenced with weekly community walks, teaming up with Operation Transfor-
mation and the Lights Up Ireland initiative. The initiative was very well received and supported
both within the GAA Club and the wider community.

In March they scheduled the Hands for Life CPR training program. This proved very popular
and was fully booked but unfortunately with lock down had to be cancelled.

In early Autumn an online community Survey was conducted, it highlighted the following ac-
tivities / events that the community would like to see happening:

                       ∙ Social Training for Adults
                       · CPR / First Aid
                       · Healthy Eating
                       · Activities for the over 65’s
                       · Mental Health awareness

As Covid-19 has restricted the opportunity to organise events the Healthy Club Officers have
sign posted on our club notes and social media many online courses for mental health &well-
being. Additionally, as part of Healthy Eating, the Healthy Club committee has recorded and
released 4 videos from the Recipes for Success GAA Cook book. It has been very well received,
and involvement / feedback from the community has being very positive. This is an amazing
resource to have and one that can remain available on our website for future years.

In October, Eircode signs were completed and put in place to enable emergency services to
know our location quickly along with other clubs when events will be held. The club is
currently applying for the Eircode for Peafield.

The officers are delighted to share that they have now
successfully completed 5 of the 7 steps required to be
accredited and recognised as a Healthy Club. You will
now see signage around the Club advertising our
interest in being a Healthy Club.
