In the fall of 2012, we opened a comprehensive

charter high school in South Los Angeles. Dr.

Robillard was the Board President, Dr. Nick was the

Executive Director, and I was the Principal.

During the first year Dr. Robillard left the board and

Dr. Nick and myself found ourselves working for a

board with similar management beliefs similar to

what we had seen in LAUSD and didn't like. Dr.

Nick left at the end of that first year.

When I found out that Dr. Nick had I left, I quickly

called him and told him that I could not work for the

current management team. That we needed to get

the team together again and start another school. I

told him that if anyone knew charters, that it was

him. That I believed in him 100% and wanted to try

again.

The team got together again, but this time we also

added Mr. Henry Torres. Mr. Torres, a good friend

of mine, joined us as the Board Chairperson. Mr.

Torres is a retired LAUSD administrator with years

of experience and one who also shares the vision

the team had.
