Airports to Compete Against TNCs
Traditional ground transportation companies are not the only entities battling the explosive growth of TNCs. Airports are experiencing parking revenue loss due to many more airline passengers are leaving their car at home, and instead using Uber and Lyft to get to the airport. In a recent article by Leslie Josephs, the author points out how airports are launching loyalty programs, pre-paid options, parking apps, and other customer amenities to entice former parkers out of their TNC and back into their airport parking lots. As pointed out, some airports, like DFW have lost significant parking revenues, are using dynamic pricing, significantly lowering parking costs during off peak times, utilizing new parking apps, and offering an advance guarantee of a reserved space.

The continued growth of TNCs also has airports rethinking the growth of their on-airport parking facilities -- or even discontinuing them altogether, and letting private off-airport parking companies assume the future risk of TNCs and eventually self-driving autos. So far, most are taking a "wait and see" attitude, but Moody’s Investment Service which rates the quality of airports' credit
worthiness, noted that airport ground transportation revenues had declined to $8.65 per passenger in 2017 from a high of $9.04

As the article points out, the overwhelming growth of Uber and Lyft has generated much greater personal car use of the airports expansive curb system, creating gridlock during peak hours. TNC drivers will also feel the changes because they will no longer be able to sit at the curb and wait for their passenger. Unless the passenger is ready to load, they will be asked to leave the curb. It is a great article showing the impact of the growth of TNCs at airports.
