I have been using Sibelius for some time now and it is a marvellous programme to compose, listen
and print the music. You can export as PDF, MP3, Movie, JPG and more to share the music with
others. There is a free version of Sibelius which is limited to 4 instruments staves. This may be
enough to do some small composition work. Or just to try the software. Music Notation software
like Sibelius, Finale or Dorico are not cheap but they are the best. It is always a matter of experi-
ence and ‘feeling’ which software suits you best. You can exchange music between the different
programs by using XML files.
I use as instrument library ‘NotePerformer’ (Wallander) which has beautiful sounds of instruments
and makes the composition sound more realisitic. All my compositions are made with this set up.
