Deloitte in September. His office will be about 400 yards from Lance’s chambers and is threatening/ promising to come for lunch at least twice a week!
Jessica Drake (K 00) let me know that she and husband Steve recently celebrated the fantastic news of the birth of twin daughters Daphne Annabel Lucy and Daisy Lavender Dorothy on 13th July 2019, weighing 5.3lbs and 5.1lbs. They are now all at home and settling into a very different life!
Simon Hinshelwood (St A 81) is still living in Hong Kong after extending his initial two-year sojourn and making it now indefinite. He fairly regularly consumes too much wine with Jonathan Zeal (St A 83) and catches up with his brother, Nigel Hinshelwood (St A 82), on each trip back to the UK (about every six weeks). He is Chairman of Vistra, a leading global corporate services provider headquartered in HK, and is building a non-executive portfolio for private equity sponsors. Nigel is also non-executive now, though in a public company environment and is on the boards of Lloyds TSB, Lloyd’s of London and Nordia. In March this year Simon caught up with Tom Hiscocks (St A 81) at his exhibition in Oundle and thoroughly enjoyed having lunch with him at The Ship and reminiscing – 38 years went flying by!
Jim Long (Lx 91) completed a move back to Hertford, Hertfordshire, with his family in 2018 and subsequently took over a successful business in 2019, supplying botanicals to the global gin industry. He remains a director of The Gin Guild and hopes the gin craze continues; he has probably played a small part in all of your gin and tonics! He lives a short downhill bike ride from James Spragg (Sc 90) and a short walk from the Haileybury College sports grounds, enabling easy access to watch Haileybury v Oundle fixtures. He saw Charles Turpin (Sn 92) on the touchline at the most recent victorious rugby encounter.
George Johnson (C 04) and Tim Elborne (St A 06) have set up their own headhunting business, Johnson
Elborne, which is focused on the commodity trading industry. George is living in Jersey with his wife and two boys. This year he represented Jersey in the Siam Cup versus Guernsey - the world’s second oldest rugby trophy! Tim is living in London and married his wife, India, in July 2019.
Seb Goldsmith (S 03) tells me he has been extremely busy and as a result failed to send news last year, for which he apologises. In December 2017 he left the investment funds practice at Latham & Watkins and moved from Bow to Barnet with his wife, Eleanor. In January 2018 their son, Reuben, was born and in March 2018 he started in the London office of Australian fund manager IFM Investors as in-house counsel. Time has flown by since then and he is thoroughly enjoying fatherhood, work and life in Barnet. He still frequently meets with many OOs of his cohort. Simon Adler (G 03) organised a quality evening at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal earlier this year, which was also attended by Paul Colley (Ldr 03), Matt Austin (F 03), James Davies (F 03), Ed Wickstead (G 03) and Merrik Baggallay (S 03). Seb has frequently visited Felix Sloman (Ldr 03) and his young family at the latter’s new country pile near Kimbolton. Reuben and Felix’s eldest, Magnus, get on so well that it is reminiscent of scenes in 3By in 1998! Seb also went on tour to Jersey with Philip Pedley and a crack unit of Ramblers in August to play matches organised by George Johnson at Farmers CC. Three games in three days will have tested the creaking limbs, but Toby Saul (C 03), Seb, James, George, Rick Legget (St A 04), Will Chrimes (Sc 04), Dan Potts (C 02), Luke Canvin (F 05), Rupert Rowe (G 06) and Tim Elborne were looking forward to pulling on the green and white cap again/for the first time and continuing Pedley’s rich legacy of Rambling tradition.
Peter Kunzler (N 70) writes that he is living on a Thames island and is building his own house. He enjoys boating and plays social tennis. One son (James) lives in Teddington and the other (Julien) in France.
Miles Hunt (Ldr 91) keeps in
contact with a number of his ex- Laundimer friends. Julian Cork (Ldr 91) is COO of a fintech company based in London and continues to live in Buckinghamshire with his wife and two children. Scott Black (Ldr 91) lives in Hertfordshire and now runs development at a major UK housebuilder. Colonel Giles Harris (Ldr 91) has just returned from Estonia, where he was one of the key men in the Enhanced Forward Presence in charge of British Forces. Henry Mainwaring (Ldr 91) has cooled down from his years in Dubai and has settled in Oxfordshire with his classic car collection. His job is making sure the world’s payment systems don’t fall apart! Matt Shearer (Ldr 91) is based in North London doing clever tech stuff that Miles wishes he understood and still plays in his band with his OO friends. Jim Rennie (Ldr 93) is still running a fintech health company in Asia, but visits the UK every time he can. Hugo Dyer (Ldr 91) continues to work in shipping and lives in Bedfordshire. Miles is also in touch with Mark Lissauer (Sc 91), who is loving life in Northamptonshire and is increasingly running his family business. Miles regularly sees his sisters – Victoria Thomas (Lx 89), Suzanna Watson (K 98) and Alexandra Howe (K 01) – and has just returned from a wonderful holiday in Greece with them. Victoria is still teaching at Washington University in St Louis and is now a professor; Suzanna is doing her fellowship at Cambridge alongside working as a psychologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital; and Alex is ascending the ladder in marketing for a large architect firm and lives in the Peak District. Miles continues to live in Surrey with his wife and four boys, and to work in finance.
Ivan Yuen (Ldr 11) qualified as a
solicitor in Clifford Chance's real
estate department in September
2018 and is enjoying being a trustee
of St Martin-in-the-Fields and the
Sadler's Wells Foundation. He was delighted to reconnect with Charlotte Hensman (L 11) and is looking
forward to seeing more OOs at the upcoming wedding of Edward Ward
(L 11). www
