Jason Gissing (Lx 89) is enjoying being a full-time father after leaving Ocado in 2014. He has no plans to return to work. His latest passion is paddle tennis!
Jules Mountain (S 84) has seen a lot of good friends Nigel Trafford (S 85) and Pip Trafford (S 87) in Morzine. Jules attended the OO London Dinner with his brother, Richard Mountain (S 82), and caught up with Simon Wood (S 82) and several other friends. Jules and Richard also attended the OO Sports Lunch in London. Guy Simmonds kindly invited Jules to speak about his Everest exploits. The School Head wisely gave the 2pm graveyard shift a swerve and left it up to Jules. After a boozy lunch the crowd was brutal, but Jules thoroughly enjoyed all the banter and a good time was had by all. Note to the Head – no ducking out next year!
Roderick McGillivray (N 77) reports that he retired from a legal career in April, after more than 36 years with Clifford Chance. He is filling his time with the traditional retirement activity of golf, as well as tennis and skiing, while he contemplates the next move.
Kate Robinson (W 93) is still living in Surrey. Her two boys have just finished Year 1 and Reception, while her daughter has just completed her first year at nursery. Sadly, her father died in January, so she has been busy sorting out probate and also trying to keep his memory alive with the Arrow Trophy Sailing Regatta (which he founded) and still organising Oundle’s entry into the regatta. Anyone interested in sailing please look to the sports pages of this magazine for contact details!
Andrew Whitaker (Sn 84) regularly sees his brother, Robert (Sn 90), and family in Putney. He also catches up with father Brian (Sn 58) and brother Tim (Sn 83) in Cornwall. Tim has two offspring – Gregory (Sc 10) and Rory (Sc 14) – and recently moved to South-West London. Gregory and Rory along another nephew, Stan Billington (F 14), live somewhere trendy in the East End! Andrew is also in regular contact with ex- rowing colleague Richard Munro (Sc 84) and reminisced with Justin
Pepperell (Lx 84) over a glass at Henley recently.
Alex Baldock (S 89) is busy running Dixons Carphone and coping with four unruly children, but not too busy to go to Twickenham with Andy Merry, Dick Campbell and Jamie Polito. He is still exchanging football-related abuse with Canada- based Chris Wood (St A 89), seeing Jason Gissing when his extensive leisure schedule permits and shooting with Ed Howard (B 89).
Harvey Flather (D 91) is currently living in Wandsworth with his wife, Vanessa, and three daughters, all of whom are under nine years old, and is Partner Director of an AI customer experience company in Central London. He is still playing rugby, but only the touch version these days due to age and injury, and regularly runs out with Max Harris (St A 05) and Andrew Appleby (Sn 93). He has also bumped into Bob Whitaker (Sn 90) at mini rugby at Rosslyn Park. Harvey regularly sees Dan Burn (Sn 90), who was best man at his wedding, and keeps in touch with Stuart Morgan (Lx 91), Haydn Simpson (G 91) and Andy Rymer (G 91), who are founding members of their 'quarterly lunch club', which is more annual these days due to work and family demands. He was honoured to be invited to Julian Cork’s Laundimer House 1991 gathering, hosted in London in May, and has been visited by Graeme Seivwright (Ldr 91), wife Jo and their two boys in July on a quick trip over from New Zealand. Harvey managed to get in a game of golf with Graeme and a few beers to discuss why English rugby is so much better than Scotland's! The debate goes on... Harvey reports that the OO Sports Lunch at Queen’s Club was a great occasion and he was very happy to see so many of the 1991 1st XV team there. He was extremely privileged to sit next to Terry Cobner, whom he felt had not aged one bit since the 90s and who recanted old- time similies like “Harvey, you jump like salmon, run like a gazelle!” To this day Harvey has no idea what Terry was on about! His father, Michael Flather (D 63), is very well and is living in Worcestershire. He
balances his time managing his eight grandchildren with vintage car rallies and re-engineering countless other cars.
Jerry Appleyard (N 80) reports that having been Master of the Worshipful Company of Upholders in 2012/13, he has now become Chairman of the AMUSF – the trade body of the upholstery and soft furnishings business.
Henry Jeffreys (Sn 93) is currently writing his third book, The Cocktail Dictionary, to be published in time for Christmas 2020. This follows on from the success of his last two books - Empire of Booze: British History through the Bottom of a Glass (2016) and The Home Bar (2018). When not writing books, Henry works for Master of Malt, a drinks company based in Kent, and contributes to The Guardian and The Spectator, and occasionally appears on BBC Radio 4 to discuss all matters drinks- related.
Peter Lunzer (Lx 77) reports that he is living in Twickenham with wife Sofia and son Oli (11), and is still a member of Richmond RUFC. Lunzer Wine Events still keeps Peter busy, arranging corporate and private wine-tasting experiences in luxurious surroundings.
Frederick Powell (St A 12) writes that he and Abi Hill (D 12) recently got engaged in Milton Keynes, surrounded by their closest Oundle friends, after being together since attending the Leavers’ Ball in 2012. Freddie is currently working on his next album, while Abi is publishing her first cookbook entitled My Little Kitchen.
Guy Beresford (B 81) has caught up with dozens of OOs over the year at OO Committee meetings, the OO Sports Lunch, OOGS golf matches and recently at The Cricketer Cup semi-final victory at Malvern, where he recalls that he lost a Cricketer Cup match in 1984. He enjoyed watching the game with Andrew Waters (B 81), who was also playing in 1984.
John Eastwood (N 59) had not been in touch for a while, but says he is still working as a consultant renal physician and continuing kidney research in Ghana.
