He Scored ten in a row
Whenever Jermain plays for the Cherries, even today, you’re bound to hear the song “We’ve got Jermain Defoe, he scored ten in a row”, and that’s all due to his amazing feat while he was with the club as a teenager.
Jermain came to Dean Court on loan in 2000 to gain experience, and he made an instant impact, scoring on his debut away at Stoke. Then he scored in his second game, then his third, he even netted two in his fourth Cherries game!
The goals kept on coming, and in his tenth league game he had the chance to equal the post-war record for the most consecutive league games scored in.
It wasn’t going to be easy though as the match was away to Cambridge United, who were level on points with the Cherries, and the task became even harder when Wade Elliott was sent o for the visitors after half an hour.
But then, in the th minute, history was made.
Steve Fletcher and Carl Fletcher linked up and suddenly Jermain was in. He still had the ‘keeper to beat, but in a ash he skipped to his left and buried the ball into the empty net. Jermain had the record – and then all of his team mates on top of him for some wild celebrations!

A season later and Jermain was making tracks in the Premier League back with West Ham, and his talent on the top stage was put beyond doubt when he scored his rst top- ight goal away at Ipswich.
Jermain came o the bench in the th minute with the score 2-1 to his side, but he still had enough time to net his maiden goal after nishing o a through ball from team mate Michael Carrick.
Ex-Cherries skipper Matt Holland pulled one back for the Tractor Boys in injury time, but Jermain’s goal turned out to be the winner, and the Hammer’s rst away win of that season.
As had happened the season before at Dean Court, Jermain was now on a scoring run, and he nished top scorer for the Hammers that season, scoring goals in total.
One of the came in a - win against Manchester United at Old Tra ord, and West Ham nished the season in an impressive seventh place.
