Making a Statement
A Senior Debut
A mixed day for Lewis, but an unforgettable game for sure! Leeds United opened the / season away to Millwall, having nished th the previous season and under new manager Dave Hockaday.
Their top scorer Ross McCormack, who scored goals, was sold to Fulham and other rst- team squad members also left the club. But this presented an opportunity for Lewis – with the team - down – he came on after the hour mark for his senior debut.
Aged just , he was thrust into the Championship, but a proud day became a mixed one when he gave away a penalty and Millwall scored to make it - !
Making your debut aged would be a huge achievement, but to do so for your boyhood club in England’s second tier adds to the accomplishment. It was the day that Lewis came onto the nation’s radar and he hasn’t looked back since!

After a season hampered by injury, Lewis probably didn’t play as much as he’d have liked in his rst season with the Cherries. But in a big game against Middlesbrough at Vitality Stadium, it was time for Lewis to shine.
The Cherries headed into the game without a win in four, prompting the critics to suggest they could be dragged into the relegation battle. But the Cherries were in rampant form.
When Dan Gosling had to be replaced a minute before half-time, Lewis came on and gave the home fans a performance to suggest that he was capable of becoming the lynchpin of the team.
He registered his rst Premier League assist in the second-half – picking the ball up from deep, Lewis sprayed a magni cent rst-time pass right through the Boro defence which Marc Pugh did excellently to convert.
