Born in NYC raised by a professor and a Jazz musician Dee discovers her musical talents at a young age After getting her master’s degree in Opera Performance from Julliard she’s on track for a big career At her next stop however Dee becomes disillusioned with the wealthy white industry while feeling used by a prestigious youngartist program When she meets Lily — the matriarch of a sociallyconscious modern opera collective — Dee awakens to a new artistic path Lily introduces Dee to Wotan a freelance photojournalist making the leap to foreign correspondent Wotan feeds Dee’s activism but also causes her to question whether her art can make a difference

t before our film begins Dee visits Wotan in Juárez where he has been reporting on the drug cartel for

months She thinks it will be a romantic adventure but instead spends three days alone in a hostel waiting for Wotan By the time he finally shows up she’s ready for a solution to an unrealistic relationship They decide that maybe the fix is for her to have a second partner who lives in New York When Dee first encounters Rain she sees him as naïve as Red Riding Hood — a cowboy lost in the land of the city slickers — but as their relationship grows Dee falls for Rain’s youthful idealism which in turn reignites her own passion for grand opera
