Important points to note
Measuring up
• Our hardwood worktops are constructed from 40mm wide, finger jointed pieces of kiln dried timber
• Tolerance on bespoke wood ±2mm on blanks ±5mm
• Worktops can expand as much as 1mm/mtr in length, so always allow a gap of at least 3mm, between the worktop and the wall if for example, worktops are captive between walls
• Upstands should be fixed to the wall and NOT to the worktop. There should be a 3mm gap between the worksurface and upstand, the only connection between upstand and worktops should be silicone sealant, allowing the natural movement of your worktop
• Upstands over 100mm high must have a minimum gap from the face to the rear of the hob: Electric 50mm, Gas 150mm
• Allow a minimum 50mm from the cutout to the front edge
• Allow minimum 120mm between heated cutouts
• Allow minimum 100mm between sink cutouts
• Stainless steel sink cut outs are made to manufacturers recommendations
• Overhangs in excess of 300mm should be supported and the worktops should be supported every 600mm
Hot Stuff
• Heat producing appliances that sit beneath the worktop, must have an aluminium foil membrane placed on the underside of the worktop, directly above the appliance
• Ensure that pans used on gas hobs are of correct size
• Hob flange needs to sit on aluminium thermal insulation tape around the cut-out, to avoid conducting too much heat and causing cracks in the worktop
Installation
• Plastering or tiling should be completed after installation
• Timber worksurfaces must not be installed in unoccupied premises.
• If wood worktops are to be stored prior to installation, they should always be stored at room temperature away from all sources of heat and moisture, on a sound level surface horizontally with a minimum of four timber battens equally spaced in between each worktop and on the floor
• Never store in a garage or an unfinished building and always install within 7 days of delivery
• Seal regularly in the first couple of weeks after installation to avoid the worktops drying out
• To test if a worksurface requires further sealing, apply a drop of water to the surface, if the water pools the sealing requires further attention. If the water runs away, no more sealing is required.
• Regular use of your Care & Maintenance Kit should ensure that your worktops always look good and perform well
• Although we will endeavour to supply product as close as possible to the sample in-store, variations in colour can occur. Please contact us for samples of current stock, as we cannot accept responsibility for differences between samples and stock once your worksurface has been manufactured
• Installation is relatively easy, for either a competent DIy enthusiast or recognised kitchen installer to carry out
• Installation video is available to download www.sheridan- uk.com
• Sheridan have fully qualified and vastly experienced installation teams throughout the UK, who will provide you with an excellent fitting service and support if required
