United Way Holiday Snack Pack Sort-A-Thon
By Jenn Baumann, Operations Administration
For many Akron families, free or reduced school lunches are an indispensable source of nutrition. But when
school’s out, many children lose access to this vital resource. The United Way Holiday Snack Pack Food Drive
helps give Akron City School students wholesome snacks to enjoy over their winter break.
At the United Way Sort-A-Thon, 93 volunteers sorted nearly 150,000 individual snack items into 3,800 bags that
were to be distributed to every student at ten Akron Public Schools. The students will receive a bag of 28
healthy snacks to enjoy during their holiday break.
On Distribution Day, the volunteers gathered again at a local Akron City School and distributed the snack bags
to the children as they left for their holiday break. What a fun and great way to support our community and
support our social responsibility initiatives!

United Way encouraged participants to decorate their donation bins to show their love of the Greater Akron
community. GOJO took home the award for Most Creative Display at the Sort-A-Thon for our Grinch, snowman,
reindeer, Santa, chimney, and present displays. Pictures below.
