On July 13, 2018, the GOJO Global Sourcing Team, lead by Michele Cerminaro, participated in the
United Way Corporate Derby Challenge event at Akron’s world-famous Derby Downs, for the third year in
a row! The 2018h United Way Corporate Derby Challenge event supported STEM curriculums and other
community-focused activities.
The “PIT CREW” (Jaynee Stewart, Marily Zahn, Melissa Luman, Matt Fox, Natalie Chaboudy, Tony
Bachmann, John Stubbs, Kevin Waugh and Wendy Rocco) worked for several months to plan this family-
friendly event, which included not only the amazing car design and build, but also a BBQ picnic with
games, prizes, and giveaways.
Each year, the United Way Corporate Derby Challenge soap box derby kit is transitioned from a box of
wood, nuts, and bolts into the final product. This year, in line with the event date of Friday the 13th, the
“R.I.P. Germ Hearse” was created.
Once again, we have GREAT RESULTS to share. GOJO won an honorable mention in the Design
Category. The Germ Hearse was rated top 3 of 40 soap box derby cars!
The team finished the racing event by falling short to Bridgestone in the 3rd heat by .9 seconds – so
close! Thank you to the team members who helped make this event possible. The outcomes we achieved
speak volumes about the dedication of our team members—both at work and for our community.
