THE UNITED WAY BOLD GOALS
In order to meet the most important and prominent needs of the community, United Way developed BOLD
Goals to serve as concrete benchmarks for their success and hold them accountable to the community. They
are taking on the community’s most challenging problems with innovative strategies and a focus on
community betterment.
The United Way of Summit County BOLD Goals:
1. Goal 1—65% of Akron Public School third-graders reading at or above grade level (currently at 38%)
2. Goal 2—90% of Akron Public School high-schoolers graduating in 4 years, with 60% college/career
ready (currently at 75% and 21% respectively)
3. Goal 3—Financially empower* 11,000 people (currently 42,000 people in Akron are considered to be
“working poor”)
4. Goal 4—Reduce ER Visits due to drug overdoses to 1,000 (currently at 2,400 annually)
The United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties BOLD Goal:
1. Decrease poverty by 10,000 people by 2025
