Saxon Phonics and Spelling 2 LESSON 80
Grade the assessments and record the results.
Play remediation games.
Assessment Evaluation
• Grade the assessments and record the results on Assessment 16 Recording Form. Check off the boxes to indicate mastery (i.e., the section was completed with 100% accuracy).
• Transfer the results to the Classroom Recording Form, if desired. • See the introductory material for detailed information regarding
grading and recording procedures.
• Use the assessment results to identify those skills in which children are weak. Listed below are games or activities appropriate for remediation in selected areas. Before beginning, refer to the assessment results to help group children who need practice with similar concepts. See Individualized Remediation and Practice: Hands-on Games and Activities for directions for each game.
• Section I: Play any of the games listed under “Spelling Games” to reinforce spelling skills.
• Section II: Play Board Challenge.
• Section III: Play Word Blend using the blue Kid Cards or
Picture/Word Match using the red and purple Kid Cards.
• Section IV: Play Acting Out using the green Kid Cards.
• Section V: Play At First Sight or Sights Around the World using the sight word cards.
• When individual children seem more secure in areas that had previously proven difficult, retest them (in those areas only) and indicate on the recording forms any sections the child has subsequently mastered.
• Try to help each child achieve mastery of every section before the next assessment.
• If a child is having difficulty with a particular skill, keep his/her practice activities at the most basic level so the chance of success is greater.
• Copy the assessments to go home for parents to review. Save the originals for the children’s portfolios.
• Collect the tokens for use in later lessons.
➤ Final Reminder: If children have difficulty with a particular skill, keep their practice activities at the most basic level. Children must be given every opportunity to succeed, or they may stop trying.
Fluency Practice (Optional)
➤ Note: Beginning with this lesson, Fluency Word List 14 and the appropriate level of Fluency Reader 14 may be used anytime for independent reading practice.
