• This lesson will focus on final, stable syllables not previously covered —tion, sion, tious, cious, and ture.
• Final, stable syllables are found in final position in words that have two or more syllables. These syllables are non-phonetic (don’t follow the rules), but occur frequently enough to be considered stable. Final, stable syllables include all the consonant-le’s (such as tle, ble, dle, sle), the new ones being covered today, and others such as cian, tian, cial, and tial which have not been taught.
• For coding, a bracket is placed in front of the final, stable syllable. The syllable just before the final, stable syllable is accented. For example:

➤ Reminder: Remember that coding is now optional. Students only need to
code what is necessary to read a word.
