SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
iRead instruction integrates sca olds, supports, and modi cations to address the challenges that children with special needs might face when learning to read.
The adaptive technology of iRead is ideal for serving students with special needs because it adjusts to each student’s particular learning needs, breaks down tasks into steps, and provides immediate, individualized corrective feedback. Throughout iRead, students will encounter a wealth of supports designed to guide them to experience success and to build con dence in their abilities.
INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS AS A PRIORITY FOCUS
To embrace the challenges facing our students with special needs, iRead is designed to help students gain access to foundational reading through research-based approaches to learning.
Multiple Points of Entry
The initial screener ensures that students start at the appropriate placement in the iRead software scope and sequence.
Universal Design for Learning
iRead integrates multiple means
of presentation, multiple means of action and expression, and multiple means of engagement.
Individualized Pacing
The software automatically adjusts the timing, speed, and content of instruction to meet each child’s special needs.
Individualized Learning Plan
This report generates information for reteaching challenging skills, sharing related texts with families and tutors, as well as informing IEPs.
Multisensory Approach
Software activities encompass sight, hearing, and touch; audiobooks; and teacher-led multisensory activities.
Explicit, Direct Instruction
Adaptive practice moves children from letter-sound correspondence through  uent word recognition, focusing on the 44 sounds of English.
