Title: Media Relations/Off Campus Advertising Responsible staff: LaTonya Taylor, Director of Media Relations Responsible office: Media Relations
Media Relations and Off-Campus Advertising:
The Media Relations office is part of the Marketing Communications department, located on the first floor of the Billy Graham Center. The office manages all off-campus media relations (print, broadcast and web media) for the College. The College’s press releases, upcoming events and recent articles about Wheaton are posted on the Media Relations website: www.wheaton.edu/news.
All event listings should be submitted at least three weeks prior to the event for distribution to area newspapers and websites. All on-campus interviews with media other than reporters for The Record should first be cleared through the Media Relations office. If you are interested in garnering news attention for an event, or want help handling media interviews, please contact the Media Relations office at x5015 or media.relations@wheaton.edu.
All off-campus advertising, print, web or broadcast, must be presented to the Marketing Communications office (x5729) at least three weeks prior to the publication’s deadline date, and also prior to any contractual agreements with outside agencies, free-lancers or publications.
Social Media:
• Please make sure to list your affiliation with the college by listing Wheaton College (IL)
• Avoid using online shorthand (e.g. OMG, Ih8that!)
• Watch over-saturation of your market. Send no more than 3-4 tweets per week unless you are
tweeting live from an event. Similarly, limit your Facebook posts to 10 per month.
• On Facebook, official Wheaton pages should be “fan pages,” which use “like” rather than
“friend.”
• Choose a name that is clearly reflective of your specific organization. Please also include
Wheaton College (IL)
• Get the facts straight before posting them on Social Media
• Review content for grammatical and spelling errors.
Surveys and Questionnaires:
The Dean for Student Engagement’s office oversees any questionnaires or surveys conducted by student clubs and organizations on campus, whether through CPO or the internet. To submit a questionnaire or survey, students must contact the Barb.Nussbaum@wheaton.edu after securing the appropriate authorizations from their Academic Division Chair or advisor. Students should plan to contact the Dean for Student Engagement’s office at least two weeks prior to the date they hope to launch their survey or questionnaire.
