SECTION 1-A: GROUP CLASSIFICATIONS
Title: Club Chartering and Operations

Clubs and Organizations:
Student groups are categorized into two different classifications here at Wheaton. The first is Organizations. Organizations on our campus are sponsored by the College and are housed within various offices within the Student Development Division. Clubs are initiated and led by students and are chartered through the Student Activities Office. Though chartered through the SAO, clubs can be housed in various student-centered departments on campus based on mission and affiliations and must have approval from the SAO and the corresponding department. In order to be a chartered club, they must meet the following criteria:
• The function must meet a clear student need not already met by a student group on campus.
• Their purpose and associations are consistent with the mission and heritage of the College.
• To exist as a club, they must advance a sense of community throughout the College.
• All clubs must have a minimum of eight students, recruit a faculty or staff advisor and create a
constitution.
Clubs who are interested in chartering may start the process by filling out the online Club Charter application available in the Student Activities Office. Interested students may also schedule a meeting with Kimberley Fair, Graduate Assistant Student Led Clubs, to begin the process of chartering a club.

Clubs Affiliated with Off-Campus Organizations
Student Initiated Clubs that are affiliated with national or international organizations see a number of benefits—including:
• Name recognition
• Resources/materials
• Extended community and belonging (with chapters at other institutions)
