With these privileges however, there are a few challenges. In an effort to increase the benefit and reduce these challenges, clubs affiliated with off-campus organizations (and their respective off-campus organizations) must adhere to the following expectations.
Relationship:
An approved club charter does not constitute a formal relationship between the college and the club’s affiliate organization. Nor do the views of the affiliate organization indicate or reflect the college’s stance or opinion on a given matter.
The college is under no obligation to ensure the annual renewal of affiliated clubs—the clubs will come and go with student interest and initiation.
Leadership:
Club involvement and programming is for student initiative and to be led exclusively by Wheaton students. Clubs are not to be used as a channel for an outside organization to have access to Wheaton College. In this way, outside organizations may provide helpful association and consultation, but may not lead or direct the club or its programming.
Agenda/Mission/Community Responsibility:
While affiliated clubs may adopt aspects of their off-campus organization’s mission or vision, clubs are ultimately responsible only to the mission, vision, and community responsibility in their approved constitution. Any communication or programming from the club will be assessed based on how it serves to further the club’s constitutional mission and ultimately that of the college.
In this way, student-initiated clubs do not exist to directly further the mission or aims of an outside organization. A club may further the mission of the outside organization indirectly where the mission of the outside organization, the student-initiated club, and the college align.
Funding:
Funding from the outside organization must be approved and deposited according to the fundraising requirements under “Off Campus Solicitations.”
Campus Advertising/Promotion/Branding:
Clubs may advertise their on-campus events pending the normative SAO approval process with the support of the department they are housed under. These advertisements may utilize the branding/logo of the organization with which they are affiliated so long as they adhere to the campus advertising policies.
To advertise an event hosted by the outside organization, clubs may only use the designated “off-campus” space in lower beamer.
The Marketing Communications department must approve any poster using the college’s logo.
Campus Solicitation:
All employees/members of the national/international outside organization with which a club is affiliated must abide by all campus solicitation policies. Employees/Members of an outside organization may not use the club in a campus solicitation effort.
