Improper lifting is the greatest single cause of back pain and injury. It is important
that we learn and practice good lifting techniques.
Right Lifting Techniques:
Stand close to the object you are lifting and plant both feet firmly on the
floor, about shoulder-width apart and point your toes out.
Squat down close to the object with your back straight, knees bent and
stomach muscles tight. Lift with your legs, not your back.
Grip the object firmly with both hands, not just your fingers.
Stand up slowly, keeping your back straight and letting your legs do the lifting.
Avoid bending from the waist. Keep your knees bent and
back straight when lifting from the ground.
