II Public speaking and presentation skills
Public speaking is the process of speaking to a group of people in a structured deliberate manner that
is intended to inform, influence, or entertain the listeners.
Rules in public speaking:
*Prepare:
-Know your audience
- Have a goal
-Choose a topic
-Research main points
-Refine your topic map
-Write an outline
*Practice:
The rule of thumb is to practice at least three times for each minute in length of your speech. That
means if your speech is seven minutes long, you practice at least 21 times.
Tips for delivery
Ninety-three percent of a message is non- verbal. This means that 93% of your speech´s impact isn´t
going to be the actual words coming out of your mouth- it will be how your deliver it. Don´t just stand
there and clutch the podium, delivering your speech in a monotone voice.
Control
Select a topic you know something about. Knowledge =control
