MESSINA ’21 ESTABLISHES “DC BASEBALL”
Louis Messina ’21, a member of the Georgetown Prep varsity baseball team and
a boarding student from Darien, Connecticut, has founded a mentoring partnership, DC Baseball, to support the Washington Jesuit Academy.
DC Baseball creates a community of
high school coaches, athletes, and families
joining together to share their passion for and
opportunities in baseball with Washington, D.C.’s youth population. The partnership organizes multiple equipment drives, fundraising events, and baseball clinics to support the local community of baseball enthusiasts.
The Washington Jesuit Academy is a lower and middle school in Washington, D.C. that provides “a high quality and comprehensive education to boys from low-incoming communities, offering them
a safe, rigorous academic setting and advancing their spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and physical growth.”
Messina and his teammates, Ryan Rodriguez ’22 and Jake Sclafani ’22, will introduce the partnership to the entire Prep baseball program this spring.
The organization’s first two fundraisers collected enough equipment for the entire middle school team, including catchers gear, gloves, bats, and baseballs. DC Baseball also initially raised over $1,900 that was presented to the Washington Jesuit Academy. In the spring
of 2021, DC Baseball is planning to host mentoring weekend sessions to form a relationship with each other, forge bonds, and help both athletically, academically, and spiritually through our combined love for baseball and shared Jesuit values.
