PREP LACROSSE PROGRAM GIVES BACK
These past couple months have been tough for me and my fellow seniors. Not being able to hang out with my friends and play lacrosse is a tough pill to swallow, but as a Georgetown Prep student, I’ve been taught to find ways to positively impact my community regardless of the circumstances. With that being said, I’m proud to announce that the Georgetown Prep Lacrosse program is supporting the Feed the Fight and Prep Strong campaigns to help fight against COVID-19.”
MAX COONEY ’20
Throughout my Prep career, the idea of men and women for others has taught me how important it is to look out for others. Even though the other seniors and I never got to experience our final season I’m glad we get the chance to end our final year at Prep by carrying out the Jesuit motto and help the community.
DAMON HSU ’20
At Georgetown Prep, we are called to live our lives by the Jesuit value of magis. The magis, or “more” in Latin, is a mindset and spirit to always look for justice initiatives in society and figure out what more need to be done. In this case,
we were given a unique opportunity to create a meaningful social impact through a disappointing end of our senior year and Prep lacrosse career.
I am proud that our 2020 team is now able to leave a legacy not in our play but in our action, embracing being Men For and With Others.
JACK PLANK ’20
Being a part of a team teaches you the importance of helping others in need, especially when in a position of leadership. As captains of the Georgetown Prep lacrosse team, we have humbly decided to support the Feed the Fight cause and Prep Strong to help combat the negative impact of COVID-19 and improve the lives of those it has affected as well as contributing to the Georgetown Prep family. We deeply miss the opportunity to play alongside each other
on the lacrosse field but are happy to have the opportunity to aid such an amazing cause.

The 2020 spring season was full of promise and opportunity for the Georgetown Prep varsity lacrosse team. The Hoyas, who were ranked in the
top 20 nationally in preseason high school lacrosse polls, returned many key contributors from the 2019 team that won the Interstate Athletic Conference (I.A.C.) regular season championship. However, like everything else in the world last spring, their season was abruptly ended in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Once the season was officially canceled, the varsity captains, Max Cooney ’20, Damon Hsu ’20, Jack Plank ’20, and JB Strachan
’20 decided that this season would not just be remembered as the season that never happened. The seniors elected to make the legacy of the 2020 team the group that lived Georgetown Prep’s mantra “men for and with others.”
The lacrosse program had a surplus of funds that were ear marked for pregame / postgame meals and the annual end of year banquet that, unfortunately, never was able to take place.
At the direction of the four senior captains, the lacrosse program has decided to generously support causes for those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program elected to support the School’s Prep Strong campaign and the “Feed the Fight Fund.”
Prep Strong: Keeping Our Family Together, introduced to the School community on April 21, was a short duration campaign
to support Prep families who suffered from financial displacement as a result of the pandemic. The program donated $3,100 to Prep Strong.
The lacrosse program also supported the “Feed the Fight Fund,” a 501-C3 established to help feed doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers. The team supported the “Feed the Fight Fund” through Bo Blair ’90, owner of Georgetown Events. The program donated nearly $3,000 to “Feed the Fight.”
The team’s four captains recently reflected on the importance of giving back to others during this pandemic and their time as a member of the Georgetown Prep lacrosse program:
