R Contributing to Georgia
As their settlement prospered their descendants became
very influential in Georgia history especially in the
MacIntosh and Spalding families, and one of their
descendants became the mother of President Teddy
Roosevelt. The bank of Darien later grew to be the largest
south of Philadelphia with holdings in the gold mines in
Dahlonega which were also influential in the founding of
Roswell, Georgia. They later established local rice
plantations, and their port became known for its trade in
cotton and lumber. They are remembered for having made
the first anti-slavery petition in Georgia and the Georgia
Memorial Tartan based on the MacIntosh tartan in their
honor..
