LEND ME THREE LOAVES
Proverbs 14:31 NKJV
He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, But he who honors Him has mercy on the needy.
Can you see that whoever shows mercy on the needy honours God? So that person showed God honour by seeking what he would eat that night! And we know that you cannot honour God and not be honoured in return. This is what God promises to those who honour Him:
1 Samuel 2:30 NKJV
Therefore the LORD God of Israel says: ‘I said indeed that your house and the house of your father would walk before Me forever.’ But now the LORD says: ‘Far be it from Me; for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.
Every person who honours God has His assurance that he or she will be honoured in return. Also, according to Matthew 5:7, those who show mercy shall also receive mercy in return. By showing mercy to the friend that came at night, seeking to meet his need through prayers, that person positioned himself or herself to receive mercy as well from God.
