to contend for His mandate. The enemy’s intention was to derail Him from His mandate by seeking to steal, to kill or to destroy whatever empowered Him to pursue it.
Thank God that the devil failed in the quest to afflict Jesus with evil. Jesus had been fortified against that evil one from His days of praying and fasting. He had received inner strength by the Holy Spirit that took Him into the wilderness and He could do all that He did in the face of the devil’s challenge. So Jesus understood what a visitation from the evil one on our journey on the earth could mean. Without prayers, it could spell doom for us. No doubt the prayers that He just came out from at the time He encountered the evil one served as His refuge and fortress. He understood the place of prayers in checkmating the visitation of the evil one.
We can understand, therefore, the importance that Jesus accorded this prayer point. He could not but remember to secure the hand of God in advance to deliver the disciples from the evil one.
By the way, this was a prayer that I believe He had always prayed all through His ministry journey. That is not far-fetched when we take note of the personal experience He had with the devil at the beginning of His ministry and also the fact that the word of God
