In Daniel chapter 1, when the young men in Babylon were brought in to be considered for the king’s service, outside being set apart for the service and ensuring that they were without blemish, a special program of nourishment was provided for them. This was to ensure their all-round development! The importance of this regime of nourishment comes from the reaction of Ashpenaz, the master of the eunuchs’ when Daniel requested a different regime of nourishment for himself and his three Hebrew brothers (Daniel 1:8). He was afraid that the king would deal with him severely if they were not well nourished within the time frame given. He actually took a big risk by acceding to Daniel’s request, although the risk paid off. Nonetheless, the illustration shows the importance of nourishment in the totality of the package called love.
A similar example exists in Esther 2 where Hegai who was in charge of the king’s virgins, provided special beauty preparations them all to ensure that they develop into the best that they can become. Esther was greatly favoured by Hegai, in
