The Man In Love
on the earth, and fill and subdue it, in line with the blessing He pronounced upon them (Genesis 1:28). These expectations of God from Adam are summed up in one requirement – obedience to His word. This expectation was actually a ‘demand’ because they were all commanded. Compliance is the only thing that commands require, no excuses or explanations as Adam tried to offer when he disobeyed (Genesis 3:12).
The demand for compliance associated with commands is what explains the existence of prescribed consequences for non- compliance. In this case, Adam and Eve were afflicted with spiritual death upon eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They were also thrown out of the garden since they neglected the assignment they had been given to undertake therein. They equally traded off their dominion over all creatures of the earth when they fell for the deception of the serpent. Each command had an associated consequence for non-compliance.
God was clear in Genesis 3:17 when He pronounced the consequence upon Adam, that his failure to reciprocate His love was the major reason. He said that Adam opted to obey the voice or desire of Eve rather than yield to His demand for compliance
