The Man In Love
Love Is Supreme (The Greatest)
And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:13
Paul understood the place of love in our relationship with God as His children when, by the Spirit of God, he wrote that love was greater than faith and hope. Love is simply supreme. Faith and Hope cannot compare with it either individually or combined. Love fulfills the law in line with Romans 13:10. However, when we examine the description of love given in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, it becomes clear that love includes faith and hope in addition to other virtues whereas faith and hope do not necessarily incorporate love.
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is a more robust virtue that offers much more than faith and hope both of which are very desirable in themselves.
