My Nephew Emmett
Countless black boys fly around, celebrating, in jubilee. They are celebrating their
blackness. They are celebrating their humanity. They are celebrating life. A
beautiful site: breathtaking, awe-inspiring. A crowd of black boys, one of every
kind, flying around boundless bliss: it's magical. And, every boy is named. Every
boy is honored. Every boy is free.”
You never know why certain people come into your life; people often suggest that it is
for one of three purposes: a reason, a season or a lifetime. Doing this interview with
TaNisha Fordham, writer, director, and content creator, proved that sometimes the
purpose can fall under all three categories. TaNisha Fordham was the co-producer of the
2018 Oscar nominated, “My Nephew Emmett.” She was so excited to be in Los Angeles
the weekend of the Academy Awards to achieve what every great creator wants to
achieve and that is, to win an Oscar. While winning an Oscar would’ve been a
tremendous honor, TaNisha expressed how humbled and thankful she was to be
acknowledged, at all, for the work that she was “blessed” to do on, “My Nephew Emmett,”
and the other projects that she’s had the opportunity to do, as well.
