The collaborations depicted in Figure 2 above are explained below:
• Public and Private Sector: For technology applications and the awareness of
the private sector on the records and archives management requirements
including the legal and regulatory framework.
• NAN/Records management staff and Action Officers/Archives Users: The
control of electronic records lies mostly on the action officers who are the
creators of the records: The records management staff provides guidance
on records keeping practices including training. The users of archives provide
feedback to the National Archives in terms of their experiences with access
and usability of digital archives.
• NAN/Records management staff and IT staff: The records management staff
advise on the records management functional requirements for electronic
records management systems, including digital preservation and the IT
provide the technical know-how.
• Academics/training institutions and professional associations: Collaboration
between these is in two areas, education and training, and research. In terms
of education and training, professional associations should keep abreast
of the developments regarding the professions and advise their members
on training needs. This will enable more participation by the professionals
in curriculum consultations by the training institutions. As regards research,
the academics and professional associations should conduct collaborative
research which among others, will provide information which they can use to
present a common front when approaching authorities on issues concerning
the profession.
