Although it had been a violent protest, it didn’t received close to the media atten-
tion that the right-wing radical had hoped for, on the contrary, most media pre-
ferred to downplay the significance of the riots and chose to retain their primary
focus on the two crime scenes instead.
Virtually the entire country sits glued to the TV screen or stays close to one, to
be able to follow the situation.
“Denmark is under attack, is there another on the way?”
“Now possible locations for bombs??”
These are the questions that have been raised be the prominent journalists. Most
Danes are currently thinking and discussion the situation. The whole state is on
high alert.
Even though he been in situations like this before, this is different, this is bigger.
It feels strange and empty to be among the few people who possess a knowledge
that is utterly different than what the rest of the population know. At the mo-
ment, the whole country is convinced, all the way from experts to politicians and
to ordinary people, that Denmark is under attack by radicalized terrorists - but
that isn’t true. In reality this is something completely different, and the word will
at some point be reach the mainstream, but for now they’ll let the population
speculate, as all of the investigation has to take place in total secrecy.
It could be any minute now, before Bjørn, as the head of the PET, will be on all of
the major networks to give an update and clarify this situation a little further, but
not the complete one, but one that is more “edible” for the general public. It
would probably contain an admonition as well, directed towards the people to:
“take it easy, stay clam, do as normal” the usual talk. Tom has seen it before.
Bjørn is a master of reassuring the public that everything will be fine, when
there’s been a big serious case, and in which the PET plays a crucial role.
The impressive white mansions, the luxury hotels, the extravagant storefronts,
all of which are usually perceived as a symbol of Danish individualism, enthusi-
asm and initiative, are now as a misplaced backdrop of uncaring wealth and
abundance, a stark contrast to the eerie drama that has unfolded over the last 24
hours.
