Julie began her career 20 years ago as a journalist covering education issues for local towns in Maine. As the
newspaper industry downsized in the late 1990s, Julie refined her skills and served as a marketing director for
nonprofit adult education programs within university settings for nearly a decade before pursuing her lifelong
passion to serve as an adult educator in online settings. She served for five years as the director of online
education at a University of New Hampshire organization that provided training on systems change across
the country, and she began teaching online for Granite State College and Plymouth State University in 2011.
After serving on the Instructional Design Team at Granite State College, Julie is now a senior lecturer at the
college and oversees faculty development. Julie lives in New Hampshire and enjoys dabbling in a variety of
hobbies, including hiking, art, music, and repurposing broken vintage jewelry into new creations.
Teaching Philosophy
“The future is unwritten.” ~ Joe Strummer
All students can have transformative, significant learning experiences when educational environments are prepared,
personal, proven, and cultivated by caring and responsive teachers. While the future is unwritten, the preparation,
guidance, facilitation, and care shown to students are written in our actions as educators today.
